Introducing Our Athletic Trainers

Elizabeth Emma     Friends call her “Lizzi.” She discovered her passion for athletics at the tender age of five while playing softball and she continued to excel and grow interest in sports.  Lizzi had the skills and athleticism to be a highly coveted softball player but decided to pursue other athletic opportunities.  By the end of her sophomore year she had decided to dedicate all her efforts to playing volleyball, during that time she enjoyed team success as CIF League champions.  With passion and determination for achieving her goals she set her sights on pursuing a career in the sports world.

As Lizzi naturally gravitated toward her interests in body mechanics, injury prevention, and increasing athletic prowess on the field; it was obvious to her that she become an athletic trainer.  After playing volleyball and earning a degree at Moorpark College she enrolled at California Lutheran University with an emphasis in exercise science and sports medicine for athletic training.   During her time at CLU she has had the opportunity to use her skills and training to assist the CLU football, baseball, water polo, volleyball, soccer, and softball teams.

Lizzi is currently one of the athletic trainers with the CLU ladies softball team and in May of 2010, Lizzi will be graduating with a degree in Athletic Training.  Lizzi has had the privilege to work with high level athletes throughout her short career and we are excited to have her as part of the CPC team.

Rafael Abalos     His interest in athletics and fitness began at the age of seven when he was introduced to basketball.  His interest in basketball kept him playing every year from elementary school through high school.  He also was involved in baseball and football.  He shortly realized after high school that his passion was not particularly set to a specific discipline but for all active and competitive sports.

Rafael received his degree in Biology and a minor in Chemistry fromCalifornia State University of Channel Islands. His enthusiasm for fitness/overall health and working with people has propelled him to complete his personal training certification through the National Academy of Sports Medicine.  He is currently pursuing a certification in strength and conditioning from the National Strength and Conditioning Association

As a Personal Trainer, Rafael feels it is crucial to emphasize the importance of seeing the big picture of fitness as a lifestyle.   Exercise is a major component in life that is overlooked due to life challenges. He is here to light that fire and add that missing element in your life.  He’s dedicated to develop programs for clients that will produce results, while taking into account all aspects of health including previous experience, injuries, and individual fitness goals.  Using his experience, patience, as well as passion for fitness and health, he hopes to educate and help motivate clients to a healthier lifestyle.  The importance of balance and variety are the keys to making fitness a lifelong process.  He believes in a progressive approach to training, focusing on having fun and hurdling challenges.

Dr. Chris Asks some important questions of interest to Thousand Oaks residents - Chiropractor Thousand Oaks Dr. Chris Asks...

What is the purpose of pain?
Pain prompts many Thousand Oaks folks to begin chiropractic care. But pain isn't the problem! Pain is just how your body alerts you that a limit has been reached (or exceeded), that something isn't working right and that some type of change is needed. As a chiropractor, my job is finding the underlying cause and recommending the changes needed to bring your body back into balance.
Why are chiropractors wary of the germ theory?
Louis Pasteur originated the idea that germs caused disease. Yet, on his deathbed he recanted, declaring, "It's not the seed, but the soil." Meaning, it's not the germ that causes disease, but the condition of the body that allows the germ to thrive. Chiropractic care in our Thousand Oaks office is designed to bolster your resistance so germs don't see you as a good host.
